How to Make the Most Out of Your Stetson Fedora Hat

It never fails… Every time you try on a fedora hat, you feel like Indiana Jones, Frank Sinatra, or Dick Tracy.  So, how do you assemble a collection of fedoras that make you look like… well… you?

Easy!  Whether you’re a man or a woman, you’ve got to follow these fedora “rules”.  Otherwise, you’ll never be able to make the most out of this timeless accessory:

1.  Let your fedora hat sit naturally on your head

Tilting fedoras to one side or the other is a big no-no.  You might as well tape a sign to your chest that says, “I’m trying way too hard to look cool.”

2.  Wear it with your “normal” clothes

Don’t change your entire style because you think that fedoras are “fancy”.  If you’re a jeans and t-shirt kinda person, get a fedora hat to match.  The key to true fedora success is to be you and to let the fedora be an accessory, not the other way around.

3.  Make sure it’s sized correctly

You’re going to have to take your fedora hat off at some point, and no one looks cool with a big red mark across their forehead.  Also, no one looks cool in a hat that’s way too big.

4.  Make sure it’s shaped correctly

This is where most people go wrong with fedoras, because there are so many different shapes and styles to choose from.  You can’t just pick a fedora hat that looks cool on the rack.  Instead, its shape has to match YOUR shape.

For example, if you have a round head, a wide-brimmed fedora will make it look even rounder.  Opt for a tall crown, instead.

5.  Use different materials to dress your fedoras up or down

Headed to a barbecue?  Off to a trendy club for the evening?  Your fedora hat can go with you!  Just make sure it’s the right fedora.  A dark linen or wool fedora is perfect for nighttime events, whether you’re wearing a suit or your favorite “dressy” jeans.  A straw fedora is perfect for the beach, a barbecue, or any other fun in the sun.  It can look cool and keep you cool all at the same time!

6.  Wear it 365 days a year

Unlike other hats, fedoras can be worn any time of the year.  Just make sure to be season-appropriate.

For example, it would look silly to wear a woven fedora in the dead of winter, and it would look silly to wear a wool fedora in the middle of the summer.

Bottom line – with a little common sense, your Stetson fedora hat collection can be the perfect finishing touch for any outfit!
